Lovers of old stone will not be disappointed. The village of Cucuron dates from before the 11th century. You can admire its medieval ramparts with their gates and towers, including a belfry from the 12th to 16th centuries, the Notre-Dame-de-Beaulieu Church (13th century), the Romanesque chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir that was altered and expanded in the 17th century, aristocrat's houses and the ruins of its castle and the Saint-Michel keep, a square tower from the 14th century. From the keep, you have stunning views over the village's red-tiled roofs and the surrounding countryside dotted with no less than 200 fruit farms as well as vineyards and olive groves.
From Cucuron you can even see as far as the Sainte Victoire mountain, the Alpilles and the Alpes de Haute-Provence beloved by the writer Jean Giono. Moreover, part of the movie based on his work, "The Horseman on the Roof", was filmed in Cucuron. The village and its pond can also be seen in the film "A Good Year" with Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard.
