Between Aix and Marseille, the Albertas gardens are listed as a Historic Monument and they certainly do make up one of the most beautiful parks in Provence. Property of the Albertas family, the gardens have been kept and maintained just as they were in 1640, the year they were created.
The gardens combine the Italian Renaissance style with the spirit of the French-style garden as developed by Le Nôtre in Versailles.
They are arranged like a theatre with lateral allées framing a succession of terraces. With the ponds, monumental statues and fountains, the gardens are a stunningly beautiful place for reverie.
The gardens are open to the public from May to September.
Guided tours of the gardens are organized during the ?Heritage Days? in September and in May this majestic setting hosts the "Journées des Plantes d'Albertas" with 165 specialists - exhibitors, nursery gardeners and craftspeople ? coming to share their passion for plants.
