Less then an hour from Avignon, Marseille, Nîmes and Montpellier, the Nature Reserve of the Marais du Vigueirat will delight the entire family. Guided or open tours, in a horse-drawn carriage or on foot!
A natural protected site of the Conservatoire du Littoral, the Marais du Vigueirat is a vast 1,200-hectare field situated in the Eastern Camargue, between the Grand Rhône and the steppe plain of Crau.
The site is a rich mosaic of natural environments representative of the Camargue and the wetlands, where more than 2000 plant and animal species have been counted, including over300 bird species amounting to more than 60% of French avifauna: herons, pink flamingos, storks, European bee-eaters, birds of prey, wading birds, ducks…
The site is home to 5 bull and Camargue horse farms, with the animals grazing in the park: more than 350 animals serving as "natural lawn mowers" on this protected space.
Besides the vast wetlands, ponds and marshes, and also the salty meadows and the Sansouires, you will find in the Marais du Vigueirat the largest protected reed marsh of the Camargue, which stretches out over a surface area of 250 hectares.
Open to the public, the Marais du Vigueirat invites you to discover all of Mother Nature's secrets in the Camargue, through different activities offered all year round!!!
All year round, the Marais du Vigueirat opens its discovery walking circuits, which you can freely wander at your own rhythm.
Along the Etourneau trails, a edutainment circuit is open to families with children, to discover Nature while having fun (trail accessible to the handicapped)! A 2.5 km trail with an observation platform giving you a panoramic view over the site, and letting you discover the ecoresponsible developments carried out on the site.
For the more motivated, the curious and the informed, you can follow a guided tour in the heart of the marshes. In a horse-drawn carriage or on foot, accompanied by a nature monitor, the Camargue reveals itself to you.
Walking circuits, animal observatories, walkways over the dykes to cross the marshes, everything has been put into place to let you discover this still wild and protected Camargue.
