In the heart of the Luberon, on the Ochre Road, the Ateliers Mathieu Lustrerie creates, restores and reissues exceptional chandeliers for some of the most prestigious places in the world.
Régis Mathieu and twenty colleagues have developed unique techniques allowing each piece that passes through their hands to become a true work of art. Their work equals or exceeds the demands of the masters of the eighteenth century.
In reissuing the famous chandelier in the Hall of the Order of Saint Georges at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Régis Mathieu took up an incredible technical and artistic challenge. Measuring 7.30 metres in height, this masterpiece of Russian craftsmanship was made in 1860 to reflect the power of the Tsars.
A technical feat made even more remarkable in that it was accomplished in just four months by a team of thirty skilled workers, while it took more than 300 craftsmen to create the original…
Until the end of October, you can admire its two and a half tons of carved gilded bronze, exhibited in the workshop in Gargas, a former ochre factory in the Luberon.
It's the occasion to visit Régis Mathieu's extraordinary collection of lights and lamps, all while admiring the expert handwork of the craftspeople as they restore the pieces. And why not stop at the tearoom afterwards!
Opened in 2010, the Mathieu Museum offers you a history of chandeliers with an exceptional collection of over two hundred old and more recent models.
Located across from the workshop, this unique one of a kind museum aims to raise the public's awareness in a panorama showcasing more than five centuries of decorative arts.
